164 – 168/365

Hello all!  This has been one busy week.  I’m getting ready for photographing a wedding on Saturday, which I’m really excited about.  This is my last week of teaching music lessons, second last week of teaching at school, and tonight is my last Zumba class in Watson Lake!  AND I am doing things here and there to get ready for our big move to Brazil in August.  It is amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over a few years.  I’ve been purging like crazy and it feels so good!

I rented two new lenses for the upcoming wedding – my first time renting lenses, and it has been a great experience so far.  I ordered from Lens Rentals Canada, an online company based in Ontario.  I received the first one(Nikkor 24-70mm) a week before I had ordered it, which is so amazing since stuff usually takes a bit longer to reach us up here in the Yukon.  Then I ordered an 85mm and that came in just 4 or 5 days as well.  So I’ve been trying to practice with them as much as possible.  Last night I photographed a lovely lady named Kaitlyn in this little meadow across the street and it was magical.  I am usually trying to keep up with a moving subject(Shasta) so to have someone actually sit still was a very nice change.

Anyways, on to the pictures!

Happy Easter weekend!  If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, I hope that things are feeling as springy as they are here.  The sun has been shining, the snow melting.  There are pussy willows and puddles that freeze over in the mornings.  It’s a glorious time of year, and it is making me really excited for summer!!  Here’s the evidence!

Well, this one isn’t evidence.  But it sure is cute.  For some reason Shasta loves to watch his truck cartoons in Russian.

Catching Up/Mexico

Aaaaand we’re back.  We had a wonderful time in Mexico and I miss it already.  The time spent with my parents and just being together as a family was so special.  We loved the sun, sand, ocean, food, and the people.  There is so much more I could say but… I’ll let you see for yourself.

First, a few from before we left…

A highlight for sure: I got to lead a Zumba class!! I mentioned to the rec staff that I lead a class in the Yukon and they invited me to lead one the next day. I couldn't say no to that opportunity!

I have a ton of pictures to go through from today, but I will save that for another time!  I hope you enjoyed seeing some of our holiday photos.

We also went to church, napped, and had dinner with friends!  You can see my “Visiting” picture in my instagram feed, which was today’s Capture Your 365 prompt.

Today’s prompt was “Retail Therapy” but I didn’t even attempt it because 1) I had no desire to go into a store and buy anything, and 2) I can’t really think of how shopping online could be a creative picture!  I suppose I could’ve thought of SOMETHING, but by 9:30am I had already captured these:

The whole drive was incredibly beautiful and it took all I had in me to resist stopping every 3 minutes to take a picture!  I was running a little late for work – but I am glad I stopped once.  I am hoping for the same thing tomorrow … even if it means another -42 degree day!

10/365

The first photo is of the Liard River in Lower Post.  I loved the way the shadows looked on the snow, and I’m so happy with the way the photo turned out.  It was taken around 11am.  As you can see the sun doesn’t rise very high in the winter time!  At least we get to see it though, unlike the poor people up in Dawson City and beyond.  Of course, when the tables are turned, Dawson gets much more sunlight than we do in the summer time!  I remember when I first arrived in Dawson City to work back in 2007, while we were walking down the street at 10pm, it felt like it should only be 4pm.  Such a cool experience.  I spent a lot of time outside that summer.
