Lindsay’s Favourite Christmas Songs

Hey everyone!  Are you getting into the Christmas spirit yet?  I sure am.  Nuni and I debated getting a Christmas tree this year because we weren’t sure if Shasta would knock it over or pull off the decorations… but we found a fake one for a really good price so I just went ahead and bought it.  It’s the perfect size for our house.  It’s covered in extremely tacky plastic decorations and I didn’t even put lights on it, but I love it!  And Shasta loves it too.  The other night he took down an ornament(which didn’t turn out to be such a big deal after all) and we all played soccer/monkey in the middle/catch with it.  We had such a blast.

Anyways, the grocery store has been playing Christmas music, which is how I know FOR SURE that Christmas is coming, and this is sometimes a good thing, and sometimes a bad thing.  Good because there are some GREAT Christmas songs out there, and bad because, well, there are some really BAD Christmas songs… also I don’t like hearing the same songs all the time and that is almost guaranteed to happen in this season.  Or any time of the year if you listen to the local radio station.  Which is why I do not listen to the radio(other than the CBC, on occasion!  I love me some Stuart McLean).

So!  I got thinking about my favourite Christmas songs and versions, and thought I would share them with you.  I’m sure there are more that I’ve forgotten about, and more that I will discover in the future, and perhaps I will add them as they come… but for now, here are some of my favs!  Hopefully you’ll enjoy them, and I would love it if you posted your favourite Christmas song(s) and versions in the comments!

Just discovered this one tonight… how can you not love Ella?

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Ella Fitzgerald

I heard a Canadian group called Chic Gamine perform “This Christmas” on the Vinyl Cafe last year and it was AMAZING.  Unfortunately it is not recorded but I have already made that request to the band.  I am trying to find a version on Youtube worth listening to…

As for Christmas songs… I can’t help it – I’ve surrendered and just go with the flow…
