how you can help scott jones

Scott Jones_2

Yesterday I found out that a friend and classmate from university, Scott Jones, was attacked and stabbed, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.  I am so shocked and sad.  Scott is a gay person and it is believed that he was attacked because of this, by someone he didn’t even know.  Hearing things like this truly break my heart.  It just brings to light how much evil there is in the world.  After hearing this news, I cried, hard, for Scott, but also because I’m so discouraged by how people can do such terrible things to each other, and to themselves.

The negative is so much easier to focus on than the positive.  When I hear things like this I forget all about how much good there is in the world too.  The good that comes from this story is that there is a lot of support for Scott, largely given through the website his family made, supportscottjones.com.  So far $27,000 has been raised to help with the rehabilitation costs(among other things) that will be surely be ahead of him.  This is the kind of thing that redeems humanity a bit, but I am still discouraged, sad, and angry.

We need to pour more love into this world, because it can be very hard and cruel.  We need to fight the evil with good.  This, and prayer, are the only things we can do to help Scott, help ourselves, and help everyone around us.

Please, pour as much love into your days and your life as you can.

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”  Martin Luther King Jr.
