Man! What an awesome weekend we had in Atlin. It started out a little rough, but overall we had a great time. Here’s what I mean by rough: we’d never actually been to Atlin before, but Nuni and I both thought we knew how to get there. We turned down the road to Carcross/Atlin at Jake’s Corner, and kept driving and driving… ending up at the Canadian/American border! Shasta was cranky that whole stretch of road, about an hour and a bit… so when I realized we were in fact NOT in Atlin, or even close to Atlin, I cried a little bit. I wanted to turn into a two year old and have a tantrum. Fortunately I have a very calm husband and he said, “Linds, it’s okay. We’re just going to get in the car and drive back.” So we did. Another fortunate thing was that the drive to the border was incredibly gorgeous and we decided that one day when Nuni gets his citizenship, we’re going to go on a trip to Skagway, just the two of us.
Anyways, I digress. But like I said, rough start. Then that night we were kept awake by the people next to our tent who played guitar and sang until maybe 3:30, 4am? And since we have a baby we were up at 6am.
But that’s all the bad parts, the rest was pretty great!! We hadn’t been camping in about 3 years. We hadn’t been to a music festival in about 3 years! So I was really excited to be there. I loved exploring Atlin, which is just a gorgeous little town, as you will see. I loved hearing the bands, particularly the Boom Booms, who we got to meet after, and the Silver Screen Scoundrels. There were a lot of incredible acts, and though I wish I got to see more, it was really fun being there with Shasta and seeing him interact with people. He was so social! He’d just find someone he thought looked interesting(mostly they had food) and would go up to them and be best buds. Whenever we walked around town with him in the stroller, he waved at almost everyone who walked by. It was so cute.
But okay!! Let’s tell the rest of the story in pictures. I am dying to show you!
and that’s it for now! As you can see, we loved Atlin, and I can’t wait to go back!
and here’s a video!
It looks beautiful and so do the photos! Could Shasta get any cuter!?

Thanks Holly… I know, you’d think I’d get used to his cuteness but I never do. Every morning when he wakes up I’m like, “how is this child so beautiful?!”

Excellent, Lindsay! And Shasta, what can I say – so photogenic, incredibly social, dramatic and a flirt into the bargain. And, yes, Skagway is worth a visit, but make sure you continue on to Haines on the water taxi.

I did exactly the same thing as you Lindsay when I went to Atlin for the first time. I had New Zealand tourists with me too and they had to dig out their passports when I turned around. We missed dinner with friends and had a story to tell. 🙂 Great series. Glad you had a blast.

I’m Dan, I’m riding the smoothie bike in your photo (I built it).
Do you mind if I use your photo?
I’d love to stick it on my blog -http://theroadchoseme.com
I think it’s the best photo of smoothie bike in action we have!
Keep up the adventures.
